Never knew that scribbling equations and ideas on white board can be that fun and addictive. Now I understand why every researchers have a white board in their room.
Here’s a picture of my scribble on the white board (or wall to be exact) in my office, of which the work I’m working on.

Now I am tempted to get myself a white board so that I can do my scribbling at home……

Equations!! And lots of them… but over the years I have grown more and more skeptical towards equations. Equations can be elegant, succinct and even beautiful, but how relevance they are as applied to the real world, in terms of how many quantifiable outputs they can directly predict, is always a question.
The current financial blownup reminds me of the math wizards who create models that they can’t even understand, who add layers of complexities to their equations but are solving nothing. They too give me a bad taste for equations….

Mat, sorry for ranting here… of course I don’t mean that what you are doing is useless, in fact I am pretty sure that equations in control engineering are pretty useful and indispensable… but when I think about equations I just can’t stop thinking about the complex financial/risk models that are complicated but completely irrelevant…
